Towards a Nuclear Weapons-Free World at University of Washington Tacoma
On May 6, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. there will be a public event, "Towards a Nuclear Weapons-Free World", with a presentation by the visiting delegation representing the Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Gensuikyo) in the Milgard Room at Philip Hall (1918 Pacific Avenue) on the University of Washington Tacoma campus, followed by a ceremony dedicating a Peace Pole on campus. The presentation and Peace Pole ceremony are free and open to the public.
The delegation is visiting the Seattle/Tacoma area after participating in international events in New York leading up to and beginning the May United Nations Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference. The delegation includes a Hibakusha (survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima), Ms. Tokie MIZUNO, who will present her testimony related to her experience resulting from the bombing.
The Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Gensuikyo) was established in September 1955. Since then it has waged various kinds of campaigns for: the prevention of nuclear war; the total ban on and the elimination of nuclear weapons; and support and solidarity with Hibakusha (victims of the atomic bombings).
Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action is the primary host organization for the delegation's Seattle/Tacoma visit. Thanks to University of Washington Tacoma for hosting this event.
